History of Civilizations

The course is designed to give students an understanding and knowledge of
the accomplishments of different civilizations, past and present. It focuses on the characteristic
features and values of Asian, African, American, and, to a lesser degree, European civilizations that
have greatly influenced the world. It contains lectures and seminars. During the lectures, after an
introduction, one or two lectures will be dedicated to each civilization.
The seminars are designed to supplement the lectures and to deepen the students' understanding
and knowledge of the accomplishments and characteristic features of different civilizations. The
seminars will explore the various criteria of civilizations as manifested by the civilizations presented
in the lectures. In addition to them, two seminars will focus on the civilizations of North America and
Western Christianity.
